Travel

Designing and hosting literary tours was a part of my life before librarianship, but that work returns in 2018! Joined by Toronto travel writer Vawn Himmelsbach, independent tour operator Going Places Together, and the legendary Ben McNally Books, our literature adventure continues.

Reading Sri Lanka

The idea for Books Abroad came to me on overnight train journey heading south from Mumbai. As I read a book set in the same coastal region, I would stop to take in the incredible landscape rushing by and wonder what villages and towns had inspired this fascinating story.  Reading India, our first Books Abroad event, launched less than a year later.

Six monthly meetings took place before 15 Toronto readers departed on a month-long adventure across the great Indian subcontinent visiting the beautiful scenes and fascinating settings of six great books.

Four years later Books Abroad went on hiatus as I undertook a new project but I am excited to announce that Books Abroad has returned in 2018!

Reading Sri Lanka begins this fall with book club meetings at  Ben McNally Books and the University of Toronto's Faculty Club. Book club members meet monthly before their flight takes them first to colonial Colombo and then into the heart of Sri Lanka.
